# Sign in with a passkey

Passwords get reused, guessed and phished. A passkey is none of those: your device keeps the private key, Hjarni never sees it, and it only signs in to hjarni.com, never to a look-alike.

You can now add a passkey to your account and sign in with it. On a Mac or iPhone that is Face ID or Touch ID; on Android a fingerprint; on Windows, Windows Hello. Password managers such as 1Password and Bitwarden store passkeys too, and a hardware key works as well.

**Add one in Settings.** Open Settings, find Passkeys and press Add a passkey. Your device asks you to confirm, and that is it. If you signed in a while ago, Hjarni asks you to sign in again first, the same as for two-factor authentication. You can hold up to twenty, and remove any of them from the same place.

**Sign in with one tap.** The sign-in page has a Sign in with a passkey button, and so does the screen Claude and ChatGPT send you to when you connect them. Press it, pick your account, confirm on your device. You never type your email address.

**No code on top.** If you have two-factor authentication on, a passkey sign-in does not ask for the code. Your device already checked it was you, so a passkey counts as both factors.

It is on every plan. Hjarni emails you whenever a passkey is added or removed. In the iPhone, iPad, Mac and Android apps, update to the latest version to see the passkey button.
