# Use Hjarni with Zapier

Automate note creation from 9,000+ apps. No code required. Connect Hjarni to Zapier and let your notes build themselves.

## Why connect Hjarni to Zapier?

### Capture from anywhere

Turn emails, Slack messages, and meeting transcripts into Hjarni notes automatically.

### No code required

Zapier handles the wiring. Pick a trigger, map the fields, and notes appear in Hjarni without writing a line of code.

### Your AI benefits too

Notes created through Zapier are regular Hjarni notes. ChatGPT and Claude can search and use them immediately.

## Requirements

- **Hjarni account**: Any plan (free or paid). On Free, the Add File to Note action shares the 20 MB, five-attachment personal allowance
- **Zapier account**: Free or paid
- **Setup time**: About 5 minutes

## How to connect Hjarni to Zapier

### 1. Create an API token in Hjarni

1. Log in to Hjarni and go to [Settings > Connections](https://hjarni.com/settings/connections).
2. Name it `zapier` and click **Create token**.
3. Copy the token from the page that opens. You will not see it again.
4. On the same page, give it **Write** on the folders your zaps file into (**Personal** covers your Inbox) and click **Save access**. A new token reaches no folders until you do. See [Agent tokens](https://hjarni.com/docs/agent-tokens).

### 2. Paste the token in Zapier

1. In [Zapier](https://zapier.com/apps/hjarni/integrations), create a new Zap and search for **Hjarni**.
2. When prompted to connect your Hjarni account, paste the API token.
3. Zapier will verify the connection automatically.

Zapier uses your API token to authenticate. Each Zap reaches only the folders you gave the token, and never more than your own account can.

## Verify the connection

Create a quick test Zap to confirm everything works:

1. Create a new Zap with any trigger (e.g. **Schedule by Zapier**).
2. Add a **Create Note** action and select your Hjarni account.
3. Set the title to `Test from Zapier`.
4. Click **Test step**.
5. Check Hjarni. The note should appear in your account.

A menu of ideas. Each pairs a common app with one of Hjarni's triggers or actions.

Capture flows

- **Gmail → Hjarni.** Star an email and it lands as a note with sender, subject, and body.
- **Google Calendar → Hjarni.** Create a meeting note for every event, pre-filled with attendees and description.
- **Slack → Hjarni.** Save a message in Slack and it becomes a note, with a permalink back to the thread.
- **Readwise → Hjarni.** Each new highlight becomes a note tagged with the source, so Claude and ChatGPT can quote your reading later.
- **Google Sheets → Hjarni.** Each new row becomes a note. Useful for intake forms, CRMs, and lightweight trackers.
- **Fathom or Otter → Hjarni.** Auto-capture meeting transcripts as notes, no MCP server required.

Reading and research

- **Pocket or Instapaper → Hjarni.** Save an article and Hjarni stores the URL and excerpt for later.
- **RSS → Hjarni.** Pipe a feed into your notes so your AI can summarize what you read this week.
- **Notion → Hjarni.** Mirror a Notion database into Hjarni. Handy when you're drafting in Notion but Claude and ChatGPT read from Hjarni.
- **X bookmarks → Hjarni.** Each bookmarked post becomes a note, ready to be tagged or referenced.
- **Todoist → Hjarni.** When you complete a task, log it as a note. Builds a journaling and retro trail automatically.

Outbound flows: Hjarni as source

- **Hjarni → Gmail drafts.** Create a note tagged `draft` and Zapier turns it into a Gmail draft, ready for you to review and send.
- **Hjarni → Trello or Linear.** New note in your "ideas" folder? Push it to your task tracker as a card or issue.

Common questions

## FAQ

**Is this free?**

Hjarni's API works on all plans, including free. [Zapier](https://zapier.com/apps/hjarni/integrations) has its own free tier with limits on how many Zaps you can run per month.

**Can Zapier replace the MCP connection?**

No. [Zapier](https://zapier.com/apps/hjarni/integrations) is for automation (when X happens, do Y). The MCP connection is for live AI conversations where ChatGPT or Claude reads and writes your notes interactively. They complement each other.

**What happens to notes created by Zapier?**

Notes created via [Zapier](https://zapier.com/apps/hjarni/integrations) are regular Hjarni notes. You can edit, tag, move, or delete them like any other note. Your AI can search and use them too.
