Hjarni Data Deletion
Last updated: April 27, 2026
Delete specific items at any time. Or delete your entire account in one step. Both options are described below.
Delete specific items without deleting your account
You can delete individual items from inside Hjarni without affecting the rest of your account:
- A single note: open the note and choose Delete. The note and any files attached to it are removed immediately.
- A folder: open the folder and choose Delete. The folder and the notes inside it are removed.
- A tag: go to Tags, open the tag and choose Delete. The tag is removed; the notes that had it remain.
- A single file attachment: open the note that contains it and remove the attachment.
- An API token or MCP authorisation: go to Settings › API tokens (or the AI section) and revoke it.
- A team membership: open the team and choose Leave team. Notes you saved to your personal account remain with you.
Deleted items are removed from active storage immediately. Encrypted backups containing the item may persist for up to 30 days before being overwritten in the normal rotation.
Delete your account from inside Hjarni
If you can sign in, this is the fastest path:
- Open Hjarni on the web or in the mobile app and sign in.
- Go to Settings › Delete account.
- Enter your password and confirm.
Your account and all associated data are deleted immediately. If you own any teams, you will be asked to transfer ownership or delete them first.
Go to the in-app deletion page (you will be prompted to sign in).
If you can't sign in
Email evert@hjarni.com from the address associated with your Hjarni account and ask for your account to be deleted. We will verify ownership and complete the deletion within 30 days, usually much sooner.
What gets deleted
- Your account (email address, hashed password, profile fields).
- All notes, folders, tags, and AI instructions you created.
- All files and attachments you uploaded.
- API tokens and MCP authorisations you created.
- Membership in any teams you belong to.
- Any active subscription is cancelled.
What may be retained, and why
- Billing records: if you ever paid for a subscription, Stripe and Hjarni retain invoice and tax records for as long as required by tax and accounting law (typically 7 years in the EU). These contain your name, email, billing country, and amounts paid, but no card number.
- Backups: automated backups taken before your deletion may persist for up to 30 days before being overwritten in the normal rotation. Backups are encrypted and not actively queried.
- Server logs: request logs (IP address, timestamps, paths) are retained for security and abuse prevention for a short period and then discarded.
- Notes shared with team members: if you shared notes with a team you do not own, those copies remain with the team after your account is deleted, in line with how shared content normally works. If you want a specific shared note removed, mention it in your email.
