Create and update notes in Hjarni through ChatGPT or Claude
You have just worked through a decision with ChatGPT or Claude. Before you close the chat, ask:
Save the decisions we just made in Hjarni, including why.
Your connected assistant can turn the useful parts of the conversation into a note you can find and update later. You can also give it a rough thought, a project update or a few facts to organize. You do not need to write the Markdown or copy the result into another editor.
Adding a title and a destination makes the note easier to find later. Here is a short example using one fictional client project.
Connect Hjarni first
Follow the ChatGPT setup guide or the Claude setup guide, then use a chat where Hjarni is available. Hjarni's official MCP server lets your assistant read and write the notes you give it access to.
1. Save what you decided
Imagine you and your assistant have been planning a website for Lark Studio. You have decided to use email for workshop enquiries because the workshop dates change weekly. You still need three workshop photos from the client.
Save the note in your personal Inbox, where notes go when you do not choose a folder. At the end of that discussion, ask:
Save our decision and a reminder to get three workshop photos in my personal Hjarni Inbox as “Lark Studio website”. Include why we chose email enquiries and give me the note link.
Your note might look like this.
Title: Lark Studio website
Body:
## Decision
Use email for workshop enquiries because workshop dates change weekly.
## Photos
- [ ] Three workshop photos from the client.
In Hjarni, you can open the note and edit it yourself too.
2. Tell it what changed
When the photos arrive, ask your assistant to update the same note:
Read “Lark Studio website” in Hjarni. The client has sent all three workshop photos. Tick that checklist item and keep the rest unchanged.
The checklist item can now read:
- [x] Three workshop photos from the client.
Reading the existing note first gives the assistant the context for the update. If several notes share a title, give it the note link or folder.
Hjarni keeps version history, so you can inspect what changed and restore an earlier version.
3. Pick it up in another chat
Start a new chat with Hjarni connected and ask:
Check the “Lark Studio website” note in Hjarni. Why did we choose email enquiries, and are we still waiting for photos? Link to the note.
Your assistant can retrieve the saved information without needing the original conversation. Another assistant connected to the same Hjarni account can use it too, provided it has access to that note.
That is the useful loop: discuss something, save what matters, and return to it when you need it.
Prefer speaking?
You can dictate the same requests using speech-to-text. If a live voice chat cannot save to Hjarni, send the request in a text chat with Hjarni connected. See the dictation guidance for the steps.
Make sure it was saved
Connecting Hjarni does not automatically archive your conversations. Ask explicitly when you want something saved, review any tool approval your assistant requests, and open the returned note link to check the result. A draft in the chat or a reply saying “I'll remember” does not mean a Hjarni note was created.
Try it with one decision from your next conversation. The short saving guide has the steps in one place.
